How To Feel Confident In Your Body Shape Now

I know a thing or two about not feeling good in your body after gaining a lot of weight in just a few short months. I learned how to befriend my body, ditch dieting, and feel confident in my new shape.

Here are some tips you can use to feel confident in your body shape starting today. Watch the video, or if you’d rather read them skip past the video and read below.

Turn inward and focus on the things you can control. Your thoughts, your actions, and how you show up in the world.

First of all, what is it you want out of life? What do you want to be remembered for? Is it your body? Is it your fierce dedication to be able to stick to a diet? Probably not.

You probably want to be remembered for your kind heart, your generous spirit, your good humor, or your ability to make others feel important. These are the things that you can control. These are the things that make a real difference in peoples lives.

Knowing that you are striving to become your best self inside is what actually makes you feel good in your own skin. Living your best life by growing and stretching and making a difference in the world is where true confidence comes from.

Give yourself some compassion and grace if you’ve been focused on your body.

The image driven world we live in tells you every day that it’s not who you are, but what you look like that is important. That is diet culture. The diet industry wants you to believe that you can’t have a good life or be loved unless you are thin.

THAT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE! The diet industry has a 95% failure rate. They are spreading untruths creating and then preying on your insecurities. If you felt confident about your body then the diet industry would go bankrupt. (for more on diet culture lies read

If you’ve been stuck on the roller coaster cycle of dieting, or if you’ve been forcing yourself doing things you hate it is time to give yourself grace and compassion. It’s not your fault! There is a better way.

Make peace with your body and give up the control.

Your body is going to grow, shrink, age and change even if you think you have control. Unless you ate, drank, slept, stressed, and moved the exact same way every single day your body is going to change. There are so many factors out of your control that can affect bodyweight. You may think you have ultimate control over the size of your body but in reality you only have a small amount.

You can do the best you are able to by listening to your body and giving it what it needs, such as movement, proper nutrition (this is individual), enough sleep, and managing your stress levels to stay healthy.

Something magical happens when you decide to give up the control and make peace with your body. You become more accepting of it and of others bodies too. This leads to feeling more confident in your shape now.

Buy new clothes if needed.

Clothing is meant to fit you. Not the other way around. Find clothes that deserve your body. It doesn’t matter what size the tag says. If you have a problem with buying a bigger size than you are used to, ask yourself why? Where did that thought come from? Challenge it.

I know for me, I had a limiting belief in my head that I was a size medium and that was part of who I was. WRONG! It doesn’t even matter. Clothing brands vary so much from store to store. It could be the exact same size physically but be labeled a small at one store and a large at another.

The size on the tag is not equal to the size of your worth!

If you still take issue with the size on the tag…. Just cut it out! Throw it away. People can tell if you look uncomfortable and self conscious in your clothing, but they can’t tell what size it says on the tag. Buy the clothes that fit you and you feel good in.

Take some time to get ready in the morning.

You know the days where you’re running short on time and you just throw up your hair and grab the first pair of pants you see? How do you feel that day? Are you more aware of your appearance? I know I am.

It may be a pair of pants that don’t fit quite right, and that makes you think about your body more throughout the day maybe even blame your body. If the pants fit great then you probably wouldn’t even give them or your body a second thought.

If you take the time to get ready in the morning you will feel more confident throughout the day. I have tested this theory out a lot. As I am writing this I am sitting here in my workout clothes, no makeup, and hair pulled up in a messy bun. I definitely don’t feel as confident right now as I usually do.

Broaden your definition of beauty.

Diet culture has too narrow of a definition of beauty. You may think that unless you fit into the standard they define as beautiful then you are not good enough. I am here to tell you that it is time to broaden your definition of beauty. All bodies are good bodies!

Take a look around. If you took out the emotion and just observed from a logical point of view, you would see that bodies come in all shapes and sizes and not one is right or wrong.
